196 migrants rescued by Morocco’s Coast Guard

A Moroccan Royal Navy patrol boat in Dakhla managed to rescue 196 migrants from a failing canoe roughly 157 kilometers northwest of the city. Among those rescued, the coast guards found one deceased individual. The rescue operation is part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to fight against illegal immigration and human trafficking. According to data from Morocco’s Ministry of Interior, in June 2023, reported the country’s thwarted some 366,000 irregular migration attempts over the previous five years.
