Morocco is hosting a command post exercise for the 20th African Lion event in Agadir. Running from May 20-31, this annual simulation exercise aims to test and improve the readiness of the Combined Joint Task Force, a U.S. led international coalition created in 2014 to fight the Islamic State. It consists of military forces from over 30 countries.
The "African Lion 2024" exercise, Africa's largest military training event, unites military officers globally to share expertise and enhance coordination and planning for joint operations involving land, air, sea, and special forces. Its goal is to improve cooperation to address large-scale conventional threats and acts of terrorism.
The event began with a ceremony on Monday, attended by representatives from the participating countries including NATO, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), and the U.S. Armed Forces. Approximately 7,000 personnel from around twenty countries were in attendance.
The 2024 African Lion exercise is scheduled to be held in multiple locations such as Benguerir, Agadir, Tantan, Akka, and Tifnit. This twentieth edition testifies to the enduring cooperation between Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and the U.S. Armed Forces, reflecting the historic and strong ties between the two countries.
