Al-Qaeda affiliate Kills 11 Soldiers in Niger ambush

The al-Qaeda-linked Jamaa for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) has claimed responsibility for an ambush that killed 11 Nigerien soldiers near the Algerian border, regional media reported Saturday. Niger’s junta-led government, which seized power in 2023, faces persistent security threats. Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso plan a joint force to combat regional instability.
