Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi speaking at a ceremony of police academy graduates, looked to clarify his country’s position of support for unity and stability in Somalia. He told the audience: “we don’t support Somalia because of Ethiopia. We support them because they have been in a state of instability for 30 years.” It follows a week of increased focus on Egypt’s role in supporting Somalia. Last week, a cargo ship carrying a significant amount of military aid from the Egyptian Armed Forces arrived in Somalia. It was the second military shipment sent from Egypt.
