Algeria breaks ground on new AI data center in Oran

Algeria’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki laid the foundation stone for the facility, located in the Akid Lotfi district, this week, that’s according to reporting by Data Center Dynamics. While specifications of the new facility have not been shared, the data center is expected to provide access to technological resources for researchers, startups, and academic institutions. Data Center Dynamics went on to report that Algeria does not have a significant hyperscaler presence, despite growing interest in data center operations across Africa, Algeria’s data center market is still relatively small.
