Algeria closes airspace to Mali in drone dispute

Algeria has closed its airspace to flights to and from Mali, citing repeated violations of its airspace by Malian aircraft, AFP reports citing a statement from Algeria’s defence ministry. The move follows Malian allegations that Algeria shot down a drone originating from Mali last week, escalating tensions between the neighbouring states.

The closure took effect Monday: "Due to repeated violations of our airspace by the Malian state, the Algerian government has decided to close air navigation coming from or heading to the Malian state, starting today," the statement said.
