Algerian fighter jet crashes, pilot killed (video)

An Algerian fighter jet has crashed in the country’s Adrar province, resulting in the death of the pilot, according to local media. Eye witnesses said the accident occurred just seconds after the aircraft took off from Reggane Airbase. Footage shared on social media shows smoke rising from the crash site. According to reporting by Defense Blog, while official sources have identified the aircraft as a Su-30, some reports suggest that the downed jet may have been a newly acquired single-seat Su-35, a model that Algeria recently received from Russia. Defense Blog went on to clarify that this claim had not been independently verified, nor had there been any official confirmation provided by Algerian authorities. This marks the second Sukhoi Su-30 crash in Algeria, following an accident in Oum El Bouaghi province in January 2020, which claimed two lives.
