Algeria's President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced on Thursday his intention to seek a second term, five years after rising to power amid widespread pro-democracy protests as the candidate backed by the military and establishment.
The 78-year-old political veteran stated in an interview broadcast on Algerian television that his decision was influenced by support from political parties and young people.
Tebboune avoided declaring his intentions even after setting the Sept. 7 election date.
