Algeria's President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed in a press release on Wednesday that a summit involving Libya and Tunisia is "imminent." The announcement, reported by Middle East Monitor via Anadolu, follows a meeting between Tebboune and Mohamed Al-Menfi, head of Libya’s Presidential Council, who is currently on an official visit to Algeria.

“We are on the verge of holding a meeting in Libya, as part of the trilateral consultations between Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya,” Tebboune stated after his discussion with Al-Menfi. He added that the date would be confirmed by President Al-Menfi.

The three neighboring countries have pledged to meet regularly to address key issues they face, such as security, stability, development, and migration.

The first of these summits took place in April in Tunisia. That meeting was centered on the need for elections in Libya, the challenges of irregular migration, and concerns over “foreign interference in the Sahel and Sahara,” as reported by Arab Weekly.

The April meeting notably excluded Morocco and Mauritania, prompting speculation that Algeria might be aiming to build a regional alliance without Morocco. However, Tebboune denied such claims, emphasizing that during the April talks, he had stated that Morocco is welcome to participate.
