France freezes renewal of thousands of Algerian citizens’ residence permits
According to a report by Maghreb Intelligence more than 23,000 Algerians residing in France have had their residence permits
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has reiterated that Algeria will not normalize relations with Israel before the establishment of a Palestinian. In an interview with L’Opinion, he reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering support for Palestinian self-determination and rejection of the Abraham Accords.
Tebboune also addressed Algeria’s tense relations with France, describing them as "poisoned" and criticizing President Emmanuel Macron’s handling of key issues, including colonial memory, migration, and the Western Sahara dispute. He warned that Macron’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara was a "grave mistake" that harmed Algeria’s interests.
Despite the friction, Tebboune denied any intention to sever ties, emphasizing that efforts had been made to avoid a full rupture. While open to dialogue, he insisted that any reconciliation must come from strong political gestures from Paris. Algeria’s stance underscores its commitment to Palestinian statehood and its deepening rift with its former colonial ruler.
