Emerging filmmakers from Africa and the Arab world convened in Marrakesh for the Atlas Workshops, a five-day event held during the Marrakech International Film Festival. AFP reports the program supported 23 projects from 13 countries, offering mentorship, funding opportunities, and connections with industry professionals.

"This is a rare chance to develop local talent," said Nigerian director Babatunde Apalowo, who is working on his second feature film. Participants engaged in one-on-one consultations and group sessions with experts, such as Danish screenwriter Valeria Richter, who emphasized the importance of collaboration.

Since its 2018 launch, the initiative has supported 152 projects, with many premiering at top festivals, including Cannes and Berlinale. Moroccan filmmaker Mohamed El Badaoui sought partners for his Spanish-Moroccan co-production, "Fatwa," while Senegalese director Moly Kane praised the workshops for offering fresh perspectives. Kane added that he is is hoping to win one of four prizes of up to $31,000. This year participants will also be able to pitch projects to European distributors, as they seek a wider audience for their work.
