At least 69 migrants dead after boat sank off Morocco on Dec. 19, Mali says
A boat with a group of young people trying to cross the border from Morocco to Spain, sails near the Tarajal beach, while soldiers of the Spanish army wait for them to land to return them to Morocco on May 19, 2021 in Ceuta, Spain.

At least 69 individuals perished, including 25 Malian nationals, when a boat en route from West Africa to Spain capsized off Morocco's coast on December 19. The vessel, carrying approximately 80 people, saw only 11 survivors, according to Malian authorities. The Ministry of Malians Abroad, which reported the incident after gathering details, has established a crisis unit to oversee the situation. This tragedy highlights the perilous Atlantic migration route, increasingly trafficked amid regional conflicts and climate challenges.
