BP begins LNG exports from Senegal-Mauritania gas project
BP has loaded its first LNG export cargo from Phase 1 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project offshore Mauritania
BP has loaded its first LNG export cargo from Phase 1 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project offshore Mauritania and Senegal, the company announced on Thursday, according to oil.Price.com. The milestone marks the entry of both West African nations into the ranks of LNG exporters and adds new supply to the global energy market.
Phase 1 of the GTA project is expected to produce around 2.3 million tonnes of LNG annually for more than 20 years. The development forms part of BP’s broader strategy to expand oil and gas production globally, with ten major projects slated to come online by 2027.
“This first cargo marks a significant new supply for global energy markets,” said Gordon Birrell, BP’s EVP for production and operations.
The GTA project follows other recent start-ups in BP’s portfolio, including Cypre in Trinidad and Tobago and the second phase of the Raven field off Egypt’s coast.
