BP has announced the first gas flow from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 project, marking a major milestone for one of Africa’s deepest offshore gas developments. Situated offshore from Mauritania and Senegal, GTA is expected to produce 2.3 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually once fully commissioned.
Gas from the field, located at depths of up to 2,850 meters, is being processed on a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel before transfer to a floating LNG facility for liquefaction and export. Some of the output will meet energy demand in the host nations, while the majority will support global markets.
The project, deemed of strategic national importance by Mauritania and Senegal, has created over 3,000 local jobs and engaged 300 regional businesses. BP has also launched workforce training and social investment initiatives, emphasizing the project’s long-term benefits for both countries.
