Negotiators from Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Israel convened in Cairo Friday to establish mechanisms for implementing a Gaza ceasefire set to begin Sunday, AFP reports citing Egyptian state-linked media.
Discussions focused on facilitating the delivery of 600 aid trucks daily into Gaza as part of the truce agreement. Israel's security cabinet met Friday to vote on the deal, which includes halting hostilities and releasing hostages held since Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel. The truce, endorsed by U.S. President Joe Biden, aims to expedite humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians. Aid trucks remain stationed at the Egyptian border, awaiting distribution approvals.
Despite the pending ceasefire, Israeli strikes have continued, reportedly killing over 100 people since the deal's announcement. Israeli forces also confirmed hitting 50 targets in Gaza over the past 24 hours, underscoring the urgency of implementing the agreement to halt the conflict.
