There was confusion Thursday after the Algerian Foreign Ministry reportedly posted an online statement criticizing France for endorsing Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara. According to regional media, the online statement was subsequently taken down. Reuters quoted extensively from the statement in which Algeria warned France of serious consequences for its decision.
According to AFP, the French government declined to comment on the content of the Algerian statement.
