A Moroccan blind dating show recently release on YouTube became a viral sensation but it has also reportedly caught the attention of the Moroccan police.
The show, called “Blind Dating By Outfit”, notched more than two million views within days of its release on the “Kawaliss” YouTube channel. It features a young woman in revealing clothing interviewing three men behind a barrier with the goal of picking one for a date.
The show, which emulates similar types of shows that are popular in the U.S. and Europe, quickly drew condemnation from some viewers on social media who said it didn’t align with Moroccan values and should be removed from YouTube.
In response, Morocco’s national police department has reportedly launched an investigation to determine whether the show has committed actions against Moroccan law.
In Morocco, the posting of indecent images and videos on social media platforms is punishable by law.
Article 483 of the Moroccan Penal Code states “Anyone who commits a public affront to decency, either by deliberately being naked or through obscene gestures or actions, shall be punished by imprisonment for one month to two years and a fine of 200 to 500 dirhams.”
