Young Algerians, who constitute over half of the population, are increasingly disenchanted and may abstain from voting in next month’s presidential election, according to AP.
Voter turnout in Algeria has historically been low, particularly among those under 30, who represent 51% of the population, according to the National Statistics Bureau.
“Young people no longer identify with the political elites who occupy the public arena.” said Redouane Boudjema, a professor at the Algiers Institute of Journalism who has researched youth and social movements.
