United Airlines is expanding its global reach with new flight routes that include a direct connection between Newark, New Jersey and Morocco’s Marrakech.
The move comes amid a post-pandemic surge in international travel. United Airlines recorded an 18 percent growth in international revenue during the last four months of 2023. U.S. revenue grew only seven percent.
The company is betting international travel will continue to pick up, particularly amid the luxury sector.
United has also added direct routes from Houston to Medellin, Colombia and Tokyo to Cebu in the Philippines.
“Our play here with these three cities is premium leisure,” Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of network planning and alliances, told CNBC. “We see strong business [class] demand, and there’s a strong correlation with people buying in biz class and Premium Select with the length of haul.”
Non-stop flights from Newark to Morocco's red city are scheduled to commence on October 24, operated by Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.
