Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met Friday in Cairo with the EU’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber, to discuss security and stability in the region, according to Egypt Today. The talks focused on strengthening cooperation to address terrorism, extremism, and ongoing conflicts, particularly in Sudan and Somalia.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s commitment to diplomatic mediation and peaceful conflict resolution, emphasizing Sudan’s sovereignty and the need for international support in securing a ceasefire and humanitarian aid. He also underscored the strategic importance of Somalia’s stability and Egypt’s role in supporting its state institutions.
With escalating security threats in the Red Sea, Abdelatty called for enhanced regional cooperation to safeguard international shipping lanes, stressing that disruptions pose risks to the global economy. Weber praised Egypt’s role in African affairs and highlighted the EU’s commitment to working with Cairo on regional stability. Both sides pledged to deepen coordination on security challenges in the Horn of Africa.
