Egypt and Siemens sign deal for 500 MW wind farm

Egypt has signed an agreement with Siemens Gamesa to develop a 500 MW wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez, marking a major step in the country’s renewable energy expansion, Egyptian media reports. The project, backed by Egypt’s Electricity Transmission Company, will contribute to the government’s goal of achieving 42% renewable energy by 2030 and 65% by 2040.

Siemens Gamesa will develop, finance, and operate the plant, supporting Egypt’s efforts to reduce fossil fuel dependence and cut carbon emissions. Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat emphasized the project’s role in sustainable development and strengthening Egypt’s leadership in the Middle East’s renewable energy sector.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and reflects Egypt’s strategy to optimize natural resources through public-private partnerships. The Egyptian government hopes that Gulf of Suez wind farm will position Egypt’s as a keyk player in regional clean energy investment.
