Egypt and US discuss Gaza ceasefire and bilateral ties

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone on Monday with US Special Envoy for Middle East Steve Weitkoff, to discuss the Gaza conflict and bilateral relations, according to Egyptian media. The call focused on joint Egyptian, US, and Qatari efforts to de-escalate hostilities, secure a ceasefire, and facilitate hostage releases. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability and a long-term resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 

Abdelatty also briefed Weitkoff on Egypt’s economic modernization efforts, highlighting positive macroeconomic indicators and recognition from international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund. He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. 

Weitkoff reportedly praised Egypt’s diplomatic leadership, particularly its role in mediating the Gaza crisis. He also underscored the importance of continued US-Egypt cooperation in advancing security, economic stability, and regional peace. The call reflected the strategic nature of Egypt-US relations and their shared interest in resolving longstanding conflicts in the Middle East.
