Egypt increases fuel prices for first time in 2025

Egypt raised fuel prices by up to 14.8% on Friday, state media said, the first hike of 2025 under the government’s plan to cut subsidies in line with an $8 billion IMF support package. The move follows last month’s $1.2 billion disbursement after the IMF’s fourth loan review. Egypt has secured successive IMF deals since 2016, including a $12 billion package to stabilize its economy after years of political unrest.
