A communications hub has been set up in Cairo to address potential issues before they escalate and jeopardize the fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, according to The Guardian.

The hub was created by Egypt, Qatar and the U.S., key meditators in the ceasefire agreement brokered last week.

The first phase of the ceasefire is intended to last six weeks, but deep mistrust between Hamas and Israel has raised concerns about its durability amid allegations of violations. Medics in Gaza reported that eight people were injured by Israeli fire on Monday, highlighting the fragility of the situation.

“We got calls about possible breaches, we dealt with them immediately and the ceasefire held in place,” Majed al-Ansari, an adviser to the Qatari prime minister and foreign ministry spokesperson, told The Guardian.

The Cairo-based hub operates 24 hours a day, with mediators stepping in to communicate with both sides when ceasefire violations are reported, aiming to prevent further escalation.

Al-Ansari expressed optimism about U.S. involvement in upholding the agreement, noting the role played by Trump’s team in securing the deal. However, many observers remain skeptical about the ceasefire’s longevity.

Negotiations for the second phase of the agreement, which will focus on the future governance of Gaza, are expected to begin in early February. Experts anticipate that this phase will be even more challenging than the current one.
