Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk has announced that Egypt will increase the minimum wage for public sector workers to 7,000 Egyptian pounds, the equivalent of $138.50 per month, from July, that’s according to reporting by Reuters. This will bring it into line with the private sector's minimum wage established in early February. The increase is viewed as part of several social protection measures that will cost Egypt between $1.6-1.7 billion and are set to begin this summer.
