Eight NGOs informed the UN Human Rights Council that the situation for women in Egypt deteriorated between 2019 and 2024, challenging President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's assertions of supporting women's rights. The report released ahead of Egypt's human rights review on January 28, highlights deteriorating conditions despite Cairo accepting 70 of 82 recommendations from its last review. The report comes during Egypt’s fourth Universal Periodic Review cycle, a peer-review process assessing UN member states’ human rights practices.
