Egypt to join new AU peacekeeping force in Somalia
Egypt's foreign minister has said that his country will take part in a new African Union peacekeeping force
Washington is actively encouraging Arab nations to contribute to a peacekeeping force destined for Gaza following the cessation of hostilities, aiming to bridge a security gap until a stable Palestinian force can take over, the Financial Times reports.
The US has engaged in discussions with several Arab countries about the initiative. According to Western and Arab officials, Egypt, the UAE, and Morocco are evaluating the proposal, although President Joe Biden has ruled out the deployment of US troops to the region.
Saudi Arabia has dismissed the proposal to send its troops, concerned that such an action might be perceived as collaboration with Israel.
