Egypt’s military chief meets with Turkish counterpart to discuss bilateral ties

Egypt’s Chief of Military Staff, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, met Thursday with Turkish General Metin Gürak in Cairo, to discuss strengthening bilateral military ties, according to Egyptian media reports. General Gürak, on an official visit to Egypt, was received with a formal ceremony at the Ministry of Defense headquarters, complete with national anthems from both nations.

During the talks, both leaders explored mutual interests, focusing on military cooperation and knowledge exchange between their armed forces, according to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Defense. 

Lieutenant General Khalifa emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation to support shared strategic interests and enhance coordination. General Gürak, in turn, highlighted Turkey’s commitment to fostering productive military relations with Egypt in the coming period. 

The meeting included senior military officials from both countries, as well as Turkey’s ambassador and military attaché in Cairo, marking a notable step in the renewed partnership between these two regional powers.
