Egypt has appointed Hassan Rashad as the new head of its state intelligence agency, replacing Abbas Kamel, local media reported. Kamel, a longtime ally of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, will now serve as a presidential advisor, envoy, and general security coordinator. The leadership change comes amid stalled Gaza mediation efforts and heightened regional tensions. Rashad’s appointment was announced by state-aligned Extra News as Egypt navigates conflicts on multiple fronts. Kamel had led the agency since 2018.
