Egypt's Sisi, Trump discuss mediation to ease regional tensions in phone call

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed mediation efforts aimed at restoring regional calm and ensuring safe Red Sea navigation, the Egyptian presidency said on Tuesday. These talks come as Iran-aligned Houthis have launched over 100 attacks on shipping in solidarity with Gaza since the onset of Israel's conflict with Hamas in late 2023, disrupting global trade and prompting extensive U.S. military responses. Trump highlighted the recent progress made in countering Houthi actions.
