EU strenghtens Egypt ties with €4 billion aid package

The European Parliament has approved the disbursement of €4 billion in financial aid to Egypt, marking the second installment of a broader €5 billion macro-financial assistance package, national media report. The first tranche of €1 billion was transferred in December 2024. This funding supports Egypt’s National Structural Reform Programme, focusing on maintaining macroeconomic stability, fostering private-sector growth, and promoting a green transition.

The move highlights the growing strategic relationship between the European Union and Egypt, with shared concerns over migration, regional security, and energy. In March 2024, Egypt and the EU formalized a partnership agreement, further bolstered by an investment conference in Cairo in June.

Egyptian media have widely welcomed the European Parliament’s approval, which passed with overwhelming support from lawmakers. They see this endorsement as a strong signal of the EU’s long-term commitment to strengthening its ties with Egypt and reinforcing their comprehensive partnership.
