A Tunisian court has sentenced Wadie Jary, former head of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), to four years in prison on corruption charges, according to AFP. His lawyer, Kamel Ben Khelil, announced plans to appeal the verdict.
Jary, who led the FTF since 2012, was convicted over an unlawful contract between the federation and a technical director. He had been in custody since October 2023 amid multiple allegations, including match-fixing, financial misconduct, and money laundering, all of which he denies.
The case underscores growing scrutiny over sports governance in Tunisia, with local media highlighting tensions between Jary and the sports ministry over key decisions during his tenure. His conviction follows broader efforts to tackle corruption in Tunisian football, as authorities seek to restore integrity in the country's most popular sport and ensure greater transparency in sports management.
