France freezes renewal of thousands of Algerian citizens’ residence permits
According to a report by Maghreb Intelligence more than 23,000 Algerians residing in France have had their residence permits
France announced Thursday it’s unaware of any Algerian trade restrictions but is monitoring the situation amid worsening ties over Paris’s recent recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. Algeria, which supports the Polisario Front's independence movement, reacted strongly to France's stance. French Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine stated they’re closely observing impacts on French firms. Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui’s office denied ex-ambassador Xavier Driencourt's claims suggesting looming trade measures.
