Huskies, originally bred as sled dogs in Siberia, have found an unexpected home in the scorching climate of Mauritania, where temperatures often soar to 40°C (104°F), AFP reports. Despite the heat, these Arctic dogs are surprisingly adaptable. One Husky owner, Ahmed Maham, initially worried about the high temperatures, but his husky quickly adjusted. According to Hela Rokbani from France's Animal Protection Society, huskies' double-layered fur acts as a thermal regulator, keeping them cool in warm climates.

In Mauritania, huskies have become a symbol of wealth and status. Dog trainer Amadou Mbodj, who imports huskies from Morocco, sells them for between $380 and $760. Their popularity continues to grow, driven in part by their wolf-like appearance and media influence, like Game of Thrones. Owners, however, must take extra precautions, such as providing fresh water, shade, and proper shelter, to ensure the dogs thrive in the harsh desert environment.
