Niger conference displays solidarity with Sahel states
Delegates completed a conference in Niamey this week, intended to show solidarity with the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS). The
Human Rights Watch warned on Thursday that attacks by Sudanese paramilitary forces in Darfur could amount to genocide against non-Arab ethnic groups.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), alongside allied militias, are implicated in ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, and war crimes amid ongoing conflicts with Sudan's regular army that started in April 2023.
The conflict has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, including up to 15,000 in El-Geneina, West Darfur, as per United Nations experts. These findings are detailed in a comprehensive 186-page report by Human Rights Watch focusing on the violence in El-Geneina.
