Egypt announces new 38% tariff on imported mobile phones
Egypt has implemented a new 38.5% duty on imported mobile phones, effective January 1, 2025, Middle East Monitor reports.
According to reporting by AP eleven leading Algerian opposition figures have written an open letter, denouncing “the authoritarian climate” surrounding the country’s upcoming presidential election. In the letter they wrote: “No to electoral charades under dictatorship! Yes, to genuine democracy and popular sovereignty.” They also highlighted how the government’s security policy in preparation for the election “continues to trample on the will of the people.”
