A Tripoli court sentenced Libya’s education minister, Moussa al-Megarief, to three and a half years Sunday for favoritism in textbook contracts, AFP reports. The favoritism led to a textbook shortage in 2021. He was also fined and stripped of civil rights for the duration of his sentence plus one year. Arrested during the investigation, he later returned to office, blaming delays on the challenges of unifying the country’s curriculum.
