Russia struggles to establish naval bases in two African countries after Syrian withdrawal
In the days after the fall of the Russian-backed Assad regime in Syria, Moscow withdrew its naval force from the
China Baoan and its subsidiary Betrui have announced a $370 million investment in a new project at Tanger Science and Technology City. According to local media reports the new venture aims to produce 60,000 tons of anode material annually. The project follows Betrui’s earlier investment in the region, where it developed a 50,000-ton lithium battery anode material facility. The new project shows Morocco’s growing prominence in the clean energy and electric mobility sectors, due primarily to its strategic location, proximity to European markets, and supportive government policies.
