French President Emmanuel Macron urged his ministers to maintain a "rigorous and respectful dialogue" with Algeria, contrasting sharply with recent government threats to end a 1968 immigration accord. The call for calm follows comments from Prime Minister François Bayrou, who suggested France might retract the agreement after difficulties deporting undocumented Algerian nationals. This debate escalated after a fatal stabbing in France by an Algerian man, which reignited tensions over migration policies and diplomatic relations.
