A nationwide strike brought Mauritania to a standstill on Monday, as schools, universities and markets closed in protest against Israel’s war in Gaza and US support for the campaign. Thousands rallied outside the US Embassy in Nouakchott, waving Palestinian flags and chanting anti-American slogans. The protest coincided with large-scale demonstrations across the region, including Morocco, Jordan, Tunisia and Yemen.
Gaza’s health ministry says over 50,700 Palestinians have died since the war began. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, while genocide charges are pending at the International Court of Justice.
