Mauritania's top opposition figure and anti-slavery activist condemns youth unemployment

Mauritanians will vote on Saturday in an election highlighting the nation's deep divisions. Incumbent President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani is seeking a second term amid a regional security crisis and allegations of human rights abuses.

While Ghazouani is expected to win, his main opponent, Biram Dah Abeid, a Black anti-slavery activist, accuses him of mismanagement. Abeid condemns Ghazouani for fostering "corruption, the pillage of wealth, and repression" ahead of his final campaign rally on Thursday.
