UK- Morocco subsea power cable project seeks renewed British political support
With a change in government, the ambitious UK-Morocco 2,500-mile power link now seeks renewed political support from the Labour
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused magistrates of political bias after being placed under investigation for aiding the release of Libyan war crimes suspect Osama Almasri Najim, according to AFP. The head of Libya’s judicial police, Najim was wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of murder, rape, and torture but was repatriated to Libya in an Italian air force plane
Meloni, along with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, is under investigation for allegedly facilitating his release. She condemned the probe as a "deliberate act" by "politicized magistrates" seeking to influence governance.
Legal bodies are divided on whether prosecutors had discretion in passing the case to a special ministerial court. Opposition leaders accused Meloni of trying to deflect attention from her government’s role in Najim’s release. The court must now assess the case, though parliamentary approval is required for proceedings to continue.
