A mobile cinema project is bringing the magic of the big screen to underserved areas across Tunisia, offering a rare cultural experience for many. AFP reports how CinemaTdour transforms parking lots and factory grounds into fully equipped pop-up theaters. In the central town of Djemmal, workers unloaded the bright red expandable truck, setting up a 100-seat outdoor cinema where locals like 23-year-old Amine Elhani experienced movies beyond their phones for the first time.
Launched by private cultural network Agora and nonprofit Focus Gabes, the initiative fills a gap in a country with just 15 cinemas, mostly in urban hubs. Supported by private donors and partnerships with companies like Draxlmaier, screenings are often free, providing entertainment to those unable to afford movie tickets. Cinema Tdour has reached over 15,000 people since May and aspires to expand its reach across North Africa, promoting community spirit and social cohesion.
