Driven by wars and climate change, a new report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC), says the number of
Imane Khelif, who won the gold medal for women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics, is suing social media platform X for harassment, according to a report in French newspaper Le Monde.
The suit, filed in France, centers around posts made about the star athlete’s gender.
“The boxer Imane Khelif has decided to begin a new fight, a fight for justice, dignity and honour,” Khelif’s lawyer, Nabil Boudi, said in a statement, according to Al Jazeera.
She and another boxer, Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, were disqualified from competing in last year’s world championships after the Russian controlled International Boxing Association alleged gender test results indicated both athletes are genetically men.
The International Olympic Committee has dismissed the allegations but the issue has sparked widespread debate on social media.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue as did Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk, the owner of X. Boudi told Hollywood trade magazine Variety both Musk and Rowling are named in the suit and Donald Trump will be part of the investigation.
“What we’re asking is that the prosecution investigates not only these people but whoever it feels necessary. If the case goes to court, they will stand trial,” Boudi said in a statement.
