Morocco is racing to complete the nationwide deployment of 5G technology in preparation for co-hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2030, according to Assahifa. Telecom providers across the country have been given six months to finalize technical groundwork, with full national coverage targeted by the tournament’s kickoff in June 2030.
The phased rollout begins with a goal of reaching 25% population coverage by the end of this year, just in time for Morocco to host the Africa Cup of Nations. By 2030, the government expects to reach 70% coverage, before achieving complete national access.
Leading the charge are Maroc Telecom and Inwi, two of Morocco’s top telecom operators.
Together, they aim to install 3,000 new telecom towers by 2028, with plans to double that figure by 2033. In addition to expanding wireless coverage, the companies will also roll out high-speed fiber-optic connections to homes and businesses nationwide.
But the push for 5G is about more than just faster internet. The initiative forms a cornerstone of Digital Morocco 2030, the country’s ambitious strategy to modernize its economy and public services. Officials say the new infrastructure will enable smarter governance and fuel innovation across key sectors like agriculture, transportation, industry, and public administration—driving
automation, efficiency, and data-powered decision-making.
