According to a new report out from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Morocco and Algeria account for the largest military budgets in North Africa. Military expenditure in North Africa increased by 38% compared to 2022, with Algeria and Morocco together accounting for 82% of North African military expenditure last year.
SIPRI’s April report also included data on military expenditure in sub-Saharan Africa, where the spending reached $23.1 billion last year. This represents an 8.9% increase compared to 2022.
