Morocco and Mauritania have agreed to establish a Parliamentary Economic Forum to deepen bilateral cooperation and foster economic and legislative partnerships, according to reports in Moroccan media. This decision followed talks Friday between Morocco’s House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami and Mohamed Ould Megett, President of Mauritania’s National Assembly, during a high-level meeting in Rabat.
The forum, set to launch early next year, aims to enhance dialogue, share expertise, and strengthen economic ties between the two countries. Both leaders emphasized the enduring historical relationship and cooperation guided by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
Discussions highlighted the pivotal role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting mutual interests. In addition, Ould Megett met Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to explore broader bilateral collaboration.
Despite differences over the Polisario front in western Sahara, Morocco and Mauritania maintain strong ties, prioritizing stability and cooperation through regular high-level engagements and shared initiatives.
