Morocco Emerges as Major Buyer of Gas from Spain Two Years After Reopening Pipeline

Two years following a pivotal diplomatic maneuver, the Spanish government reinstated operations of the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline, facilitating the delivery of gas to Morocco by reversing the traditional flow. This adjustment came in response to Algeria's unilateral closure of the pipeline. The reactivation has elevated Morocco to become Spain's second-largest recipient of gas re-exports, trailing only France. To date this year, Morocco's share of Spain's total natural gas re-exports has reached 16.5%.
