Morocco hit record-low water and vegetation levels in 2024

According to the 2024 Global Water Monitor Report, Morocco recorded alarming lows across several critical environmental indicators including declines in surface water extent, vegetation cover, and total water storage. The report identifies Morocco as one of 15 countries worldwide to report historic lows in surface water worsened by the combined effects of erratic rainfall and rising temperatures. With 2024 as the hottest year on record, the report warns that climate change is accelerating water challenges globally.
