According to reports by Africanews, Morocco plans on registering the caftan as an element of intangible heritage with UNESCO. If added to the list, it would feature alongside other recognitions like the art of Gnawa and Bourdain which have positioned Moroccan culture on the international stage. Designers of caftans, traditional Moroccan robes, are hoping that the garment will secure a spot on the UNESCO intangible heritage list this year as an important step in preserving the country's traditions.
